BUCHANAN COUNTY, Iowa - An Iowa man is guilty of beating the family dog and forcing his children to watch a video of the beating.

42-year-old Jason O'Neil Johnson of Independence has been convicted by a Buchanan County jury of animal torture.

Earlier this year, he held down the family dog, Daisy, and repeatedly beat her with a belt and his fists because the dog chewed a pair of his sunglasses.

KCRG-TV 9 reports Johnson had his son record the beating and send it to the other children to teach them what happens when they fail to put the dog in her kennel when leaving the house.

Johnson faces up to two years when he is sentenced, and by Iowa law the convicted requires Johnson to have a psychological evaluation.
