Food Bank of Iowa hosts Smoke Out Hunger event in Des Moines

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Food Bank of Iowa is hosting the annual Smoke Out Hunger event this weekend at Brenton Skating Plaza.

"It's a family-friendly barbecue event and there's something for everyone. There's some kids activities, craft breweries are present for the adults and a ton of great food. We've got about thirteen or fourteen food vendors this year," said Dylan Lampe with the Food Bank of Iowa.

Lampe tells WHO Radio News the all-you-can eat barbecue event raises money for 250,000 meals for Iowans in need.

"We distribute about one-point two million pounds of food currently a month from the Food Bank of Iowa and that gets distributed to over six-hundred partner agencies across the 55 counties we serve," said Lampe.

You can buy tickets at the door or online. Ticket prices are $45 for ages 21 and older, $25 for ages 12 through 20, $10 for kids 6 to 11 and ages five and under are admitted free of charge.

Smoke Out Hunger is open from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.
