Organ donation lawsuit joined by University of Iowa Hospitals

IOWA CITY, Iowa - A lawsuit against donating livers over greater distances now has the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics on board.

The idea is reduce the wait time for patients in need, according to the United Network for Organ Sharing.

But the transplant director at University of Iowa Hospitals thinks more distant distribution could be a problem for states with rural populations.

A spokesperson with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says the plan's on hold until mid-May.

According to WHO Channel 13, the policy was set to go into effect on Tuesday.
