Centerville, Iowa fire claims two lives

(CENTERVILLE, Iowa)  The Centerville Fire Department reports two people were killed in an apartment fire, Thursday night.  Fire was reported at 11:23 p.m.  at The Diamond View Apartments at 735 North Park Avenue.   

Crews arrived to find heavy smoke and fire at two buildings.

It was reported that two Centerville Police Officers rescued two residents from one building, but that two other residents were unaccounted for.

Firefighters attempted to rescue the other two individuals, but were unable to do so, because of heavy fire and debris in the residence.

Firefighters put out the fire in three hours, and then found two bodies inside one building.

The bodies have been transported to the State Medical Examiner's Office for identification.

The Centerville Fire Department and the State Fire Marshall's Office are investigating the cause of the fire. .

The Centerville Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Mystic, Moravia, Moulton, Cincinnati and Albia Fire Departments as well as Midwest Medical Transport, The Centerville Police Department, Appanoose County Sheriffs Department, Alliant Utilities and the Appanoose County Medical Examiner's Office.
