Austin Pape - charged with vandalizing Dyersville Field of Dreams movie site

DYERSVILLE, Iowa - A Dyersville man has been arrested for vandalizing the Field of Dreams movie set in Dyersville.

20-year-old Austin Paper is charged with 2nd Degree Criminal Mischief, a Class D Felony; and Reckless Driving a Simple Misdemeanor.

Pape turned himself into the Dubuque County Sheriff's Office on February 1 and appeared in court shortly after.

The Field of Dreams vandalism was reported in January, with deep tire tracks and ruts dug into the playing field.

A GoFundMe raised thousands of dollars to restore the movie site, reports KCRG-TV.

Field of Dreams is a baseball field just outside of Dyersville that was the site of the 1989 movie by the same name starring Kevin Costner, James Earl Jones, and Ray Liotta.

In 2017, the Field of Dreams movie site in Dyersville, Iowa was added to a part of the National Film Registry. To be on the list, a movie must be at least 10 years old and be culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant within American film heritage.
