Iowa Ag Secretary field of candidates growing

(Mike Naig and Tim Gannon)

(DES MOINES, Iowa)  There are two more names, added to the list of those either running for Iowa Secretary of Agriculture or thinking about running.

Deputy Agriculture Secretary Mike Naig says he's considering a run for the Republican primary.   Naig is a native of northwest Iowa,  who's worked under current Iowa Ag Secretary Bill Northey for the past four years.

Northey is waiting for confirmation as an Under Secretary at the U.S Department of Agriculture.   Should he be confirmed, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds would appoint someone to serve out Northey's term.

There are three Republican candidates who have announced intentions to run in their party's primary.

They are:   Craig Lang, Ray Gasser, and Chad Ingles.

Democrat Tim Gannon has announced he's running for the office.   Gannon is a Jasper County farmer, a crop insurance agent, and former USDA official under Tom Vilsack.
