Willie Farrell joined us in the studio this morning just after the 7:30 news to promote the Italian American Heritage Festival of Iowa. It's this weekend in the Western Gateway Park. Great music, food and games! The Flying Marsupials will be performing among many others. The hours are 11AM-1AM on Friday and 10AM-1AM on Saturday. The Jersey Boys joined us in the studio just after the 8:30 news. They will be performing at the Civic Center July 24th thru August 4th. The special Van and onnie matinee is July 25th at 2PM. They are also doing a special gig for RAGBRAI downtown at the Principal Pavilion Stage (corner of Water Street & East Walnut Street) at 6:30 this evening. We gave them Van & onnie nose glasses as parting gifts...here's a picture!

John Sellers took a little ride in a hot air balloon this morning with his pilot, Joel Worthington of Diamond Jake Ballooning! I hope you had a chance to hear how much fun he had. It was all to promote the Indianola National Balloon Classic that starts Friday and runs thru August 3rd. I hope you were listening to exactly what time and where John landed this morning. Those two pieces of information are worth a hot air balloon ride during the Classic for you! Sometime tomorrow morning, Van and I will ask for those two pieces of information. Thank you to our Van and onnie Astronomer Herb Schwartz for sending us the information about the Cassini spacecraft photographing Earth through the rings of Saturn today...and they're asking us to jump into the shot! Cassini's cameras will be trained on Earth at 4:27PM (Iowa time). The body of Saturn will eclipse the sun so that the rings are magnificently backlit. Earth will appear as a tiiny blue speck just outside the E ring. Go outside, face East and wave at the blue sky.

The Barnstormers and the Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival are teaming up this Saturday afternoon and evening to bring you the Bacon Bowl! The tailgate party will feature all sorts of bacon dishes...lots of things for the kids to do...one free beverage...live music by Randy Burk and the Prisoners and more. The party starts at 3PM, tickets are $25.00 which include your ticket to the game. The game begins at 7:05PM when the Iowa Barnstormers take on the Utah Blaze in the battle for the Iowa Bacon Bowl Trophy. The National WWII Museum in New Orleans will have a booth at the Iowa State Fair with a fund raiser for the restoration of the PT305 Higgins boat built in New Orleans. The boat is scheduled to be launched in March 2015. Many Iowans served on PT boats during WWII. They are looking for volunteers to help man the booth. They joined us this morning to remind us that next Tuesday and Wednesday RAGBRAI comes to Des Moines and they are expecting up to 30,000 bicycle riders in the metro area.
