Van needed a haircut badly...but no time in his schedule to get it done. So, he called his barber, Brian Hogan, owner of the Franklin Plaza Barber Shop, and asked if he could come to the station to cut his hair. Brian agreed and arrived at the station about 7AM. He brought everything he needed to cut Van's hair. The headphones were an issue...I thought Brian should just cut around them, but Van decided to take them off. Brian has a Last Sunday of the Month special from noon to 4PM....a haircut, beverage and BBQ for $25.00! Just too show you he really did it, here's the picture!

Thank you to everyone who came out to Ashton White's Lemonade Stand and purchased some great AE Icy Cold To Go Lemonade! Ashton's stand was made from the front of a 2000 GMC pick-up, with working lights and everything! It had drawers in the back (made from Ashton's dresser). A huge thank-you to AE for providing the lemonade free of charge to Ashton...a huge thank-you to Community State Bank of Altoona, Ankeny, Des Moines, Johnston, Pleasant Hill and Waukee for giving Ashton a check for $1500.00 towards his college education...and a huge thank-you to Valley West Mall for providing us with a great location! Ashton wants to work with animals when he grows up...he is already a volunteer at the ARL and he's only 10! He and his mom, April, and his dad, Joe, are a wonderful family from Carlisle.

Staci Scheurenbrand and Drew Bracken from the National Balloon Classic joined us in the studio this morning just after the 8:30 news. The Classic gets underway tomorrow evening and runs thru August 3rd. Staci reminded everyone that the balloons go up at 6:30AM and 6:30PM, weather permitting. The morning flights are "competition flights" and it's free to come out to the balloon field to watch. There is a parade on Saturday. Night glows are both Friday evenings as well as on Wednesday and Thursday. Fireworks on both Saturday evenings. Be sure to be listening to WHO Radio each morning and evening to find out if the flights are on or whether they have been cancelled due to weather conditions. Thanks to Kyle's Bikes in Ankeny for helping us do RAGBRAI this morning! We had stationary bikes set up in front of the WHO Radio Crystal Studios and waved and talked to folks on RAGBRAI as they rode by. What a fantastic sight and everyone seemed to be haaving a great time this year, especially with the beautiful weather.
