Just after 8:30AM, Elizabeth Proffitt joined us on the air. Elizabeth is a 49 year-old resident of Reading, PA. She's been running marathons since her husband's untimely death in 2005. She made it her goal to run 50 marathons in 50 states before she turned 50. Her 50th birthday is this year and she will run in her 50th marathon here in Des Moines on Sunday! Congratulations Elizabeth and best of luck in the Des Moines Marathon!

Mary Mefford of Terrace Hill was our special guest this morning just after the 8:30 news. They are decorating the mansion for Halloween and are getting ready for two very fun events. On October 25th ghouls, goblins and creepy, crawly, scary things from all over the state will emerge to trick-or-treat at Terrace Hill. The scares will start at 5:00 p.m. at Terrace Hill (2300 Grand Avenue) and continue past dark and under the moonlight until 9:00 p.m. Kids ages 3+ are $3 and adults accompanying are $5. You may purchase your tickets by visiting the Terrace Hill website or calling (515) 281-7205. October 31st the Terrace Hill Governor’s mansion will host its second annual Scare Us Hill Pumpkin Ball, with the Governor and First Lady. The Halloween celebration will begin at 6 p.m. for a night of witches brew, ghoulish delights, fortunetellers, costume contests, and a live auction. Attendees can bid to win a one-night stay for two in the mansion’s hauntedguest suite, not usually open for public. The stay includes breakfast in bed prepared by Terrace Hill’s personal chef. Tickets to Scare-Us-Hill Pumpkin Ball are $75 per guest and can be purchased online at www.terracehilliowa.org. They're looking for indoor shots as well as outdoor shots, country pictures, building pictures, main streets and unique buildings. Kelly Foss of the Downtown Farmers Market was our special guest this morning just after the 8:30 news. There are two Saturdays left for the Farmers Market. There will however, be a special indoor Farmers Market one weekend in November and one weekend in December. They will take place November 22nd and 23rd and December 13th and 14th in Capital Square and Kaleidescope Mall. There will be 130 vendors in the special indoor Farmers Market.

Miriam Erickson and Kim Peter of the Anderson Erickson Dairy were our special guests just after the 8:30 news. They brought in the latest of their new products....Mimi's Chocolate Milknog and After Dinner Mint Chocolate Milk...look for them in the grocery store! They also had a carton (empty) of the new Mr. E's French Onion Cottage Cheese! It features Mr. Erickson with a moustache and a baret! Look for it coming to your grocery store soon...perhaps by the end of next week! The new products have been flying off the shelves with rave reviews! Check them out if you haven't already! It's World Egg Day...celebrate by buying an extra dozen eggs! Thanks to Kevin Vinchattle of the Iowa Egg Council for supplying us with a couple dozen "eggs on a stick" for breakfast in the studio this morning.

Conner Mason was diagnosed with a brain tumor...he went thru all the chemo and radiation only to have it come back again. Conner is currently undergoing a different course of treatment in Boston. Tori's Angels has been helping with Conner's expenses that insurance does not cover. There is a spaghetti dinner and silent auction to benefit the kids of Tori's Angels on Sunday, October 13th, 11AM-2PM at Assembly Hall, 1250 NE 56th Street, Pleasant Hill (right beside the Post Office). There is a free-will offering with 100% of the proceeds to the kids! There are all sorts of NFL and major league baseball signed items and more in the silent auction.
