Just after the 8:30 news this morning, Miriam Erickson and Kim Peter of Anderson Erickson joined us in the studio with some great goodie ideas.  Whether you're looking for ideas for a Memorial Day BBQ or graduation parties, Anderson Erickson has some great ones!  They brought in those little clear cups with AE dip in the bottom and carrots, celery, green and red pepper strips sitting in the dip.  They also had Icy Cold to Go milk (chocolate, strawberry and white) with a colorful straw coming out the top...with cookies (with holes in the center) over the straw!  They also had homemade ice cream using their fabulous Sara Ann Ice Cream mix you find in the dairy aisle...it's all ready to pour in your ice cream maker.  Get more ideas at www.aedairy.com, just click on "recipes".

Van & Bonnie "Eat Other People's Meals" on Tuesdays....today's meal was breakfast courtesy of the Polk County Jail.  Jana Aben, Public Information Officer for the Polk County Sheriff's Office joined us in the studio this morning with breakfast.  We had Cheerios, bread with either jelly or peanut butter, orange juice and milk...just what the inmates at the Polk County Jail were having this morning.  Jana couldn't resist, however, stopping by the bakery and picking us up some donuts!  Breakfast was served on the serving trays used at the jail along with a "spork" the utensil that's used in the jail (half spoon/half fork).  Of course Van had to slurp the leftover miilk from his Cheerios out of the tray!

Jerry Luedtke of the Navy, joined us in the studio just after the 8:30 news.  The United Submarine Veterans of Iowa would like you to join them on the SE side of the State Capital grounds on Saturday, June 8th, 11AM for the Sixth Annual Tolling the Boats (to remember our fellow Submariner comrades who have given their lives while serving our country.  There will also be a ceremony in September at the Veteran's Cemetary in Van Meter.  They are trying to reach the families of fallen submariners from Iowa to have them attend the ceremony.  More information can be found at www.USSVI.org or by calling 515-491-1331.  They will also have a table at our special broadcast at the Gold Star Museum at Camp Dodge on Memorial Day.

Nascar drivers James Buescher and Justin Allgaier joined us in the studio this morning just after the 6:30 news.  James was winning races and championships at 12 years old!  Justin was a five-time Quarter Midget Champion with more than 100 wins by the age of 12!  See James and Justin race at the Iowa Speedway on June 7th and July 13th.  See the entire race schedule at www.IowaSpeedway.com.

Kelly Foss of the Farmer's Market was our special guest this morning just after the 8:30 news.  New this year...a stand that no only sells gluten-free products, but makes gluten-free foods right on site.  You can get a gluten-free snack to enjoy while shopping the market, or a gluten-free lunch.  Also, fresh, all natural pesto sauce is available at the Aquaponic Hassevoort Farms booth, along with beef stick samples.  Check out the entertainment on every corner of the market.  Hours are Saturdays, 7AM-Noon on Court Avenue in Downtown Des Moines.

Tomorrow we'll have 3 pairs of tickets to give away to the USA Track and Field Event at Drake University.  Remember....you want to siit in the East stands to win tickets!

I hope you all had a chance to hear Carol Burnett on the air with us this morning just after the 7:30 news.  She is quite a lady and so interesting to talk with.  If you don't already have tickets...get them right away...Carol will be at the Civic Center this Sunday!

Just after the 6:30 news, Terry Rich of the Iowa Lottery, joined us in the studio.  The Power Ball jackpot is at $360 million!  Terry left us with a gift for you....five sets of $20.00 each in Power Ball plays!  We gave them away this morning to five lucky winners....good luck!

It's a Tuesday, so it's Van & Bonnie Eat Other People's Meals Day!  Today we welcomed Adam Lathrop and Jackie Mott of Meals on Wheels!  We had a marvelous meal of pork tips over noodles, peas and mixed vegetables.  They also brought along a chicken salad sandwich as well as a chicken and lettuce salad.  There were oranges, milk and apple juice too!  Meals on Wheels is part of Wesley Life and to sign up to receive Meals on Wheels, go to www.WesleyLife.org/meals or call 515-699-3243.

Just after the 8:30 news, Jonathan Yentis joined us in the studio to promote the Jewish Food Fair.  The Jewish Food Fair is Sunday, May 19th, 11AM-5PM, at the Temple B'nai Jeshurun, 5101 Grand Avenue here in Des Moines.  They will be serving Matzah balls in chicken soup, corned beef sandwiches, kugel, brisket and more.  Musical entertainment, tours of the sanctuary, drive-up service, Israeli dancing and a Jewish wedding are all things that are available to see.

Pastor Steve Hudson joined us in the studio just after the 8:30AM news to let us know about the Destiny & Genesis Homes 6th Annual Kidsave Golf Classic on May 21st at River Valley Golf Course in Adel. For more information go to www.itsnotok.us.  KIDSAVE’S SUMMER MIRACLES PROGRAM provides children from Colombia, age 8-14, who do not have a family of their own to come to the U.S. for a four week summer visit. During their stay, host families, volunteers and KIDSAVE staff work diligently to help each child meet individuals and families who may be interested in adoption.  The Grimes North Point small group is currently looking for individuals and families who would be interested in financing a child this summer and/or participating in our 6th annual golf classic fundraiser. They are also looking for those interested in volunteering at several weekend events this July. Who has the best female voice in Des Moines radio and TV history.  Many people would say Annie Meachum.  She was gracious enough to get up early and join me this morning as my “designated Bonnie.” Even if you don’t recognize the name, I’ll bet you recognized the voice if you heard it this morning.  Well, it’s been a fun week!  Bonnie reeturns Monday.
