Sonya Heitshusen from TV-13 joined us in the studio this morning just after the 8:30 news.  Sonya has an investigative piece on the 10PM news tonight where she looked into the travel expenses of State of Iowa appointees.  She will be highlighting one person who was okayed to attend a conference in Europe and then did not attend the conference, but turned in all the expenses.  She will name the person tonight and reveal the story.  Tune in at 10PM for Sonya's investigative report.

Today is Tuesday...so it's a Van & Bonnie Eat Other People's Meals Day.  Today we had a Fire Fighters meal.  Fire Fighters Karlos Kirby and Matt Palon joined us in the studio and they brought us some of Matt's famous french toast and sausage.  He is a great cook!  They say his meatloaf is to die for....guess we'll need to get his recipe!  Thanks guys!  Tune in next Tuesday when we have a hospital meal from Iowa Methodist!

Thank you to everyone who came out this morning to have your documents shredded in our Annual Aviva Paper Shred Event!  When we left at 9AM this morning, you had already filled one 53' semi trailer and they were working on a second one!  You can still take your 5 boxes of documents to be shredded thru 1PM today.  Go a couple of blocks south of the intersection of Jordan Creek Parkway and Mills Civic Parkway (just south of Jordan Creek Town Centre).   The truck is located in the East parking loot of Aviva.  They have volunteers ready to unload your boxes.  Thank you to all of the employee volunteers as well as the Iowa Forestry Division of the DNR for the free trees we gave away this morning as well!

Luke Snyder, bull rider with the Professional Bull Riders, was our special guest just after the 6:30 news.  Luke will be competing in the PBR this weekend at Wells Fargo Arena.  Luke has been riding bulls since he was 10 years old and is now one of the "old" guys at age 30!  Luke says Des Moines has been very good to him in the past, so we hope he does well!  He'll also be at G&L Clothing this afternoon from 5-7PM, 1801 Ingersoll.  Weather permitting, they will have a mechanical bull in the parking lot, plus free pulled-pork sandwiches from Claxon's to the first 80 guests!

Seth Bartman, Survivalist, was our special guest just after the 7:30 news.  Seth is part of our "Van & Bonnie Eat Other People's Meals" every Tuesday schedule.  Seth is with Watchmen of Iowa...The Patriot Solution to Securing Our Nation and Our Families.  Their whole philosphy is "Be Prepared".  He brought in MRE (Meals Ready to Eat).  Van had spaghetti and I had chili and macaroni!  They were pretty good!  Just add water to the special heating bag and the water immediately begins to boil and cook the meal in just a few minutes!  There were crackers and cheese, marble pound cake and more to go with the entree!  For more information, go to www.WatchmenOfIowa.com.
