Today is National Smoke-Out Day...the day smokers are encouraged to stop smoking for just one day...and then hopefully the next day and the next until they can stop for good...one day at a time.  Chuck Reed of the American Cancer Society brought a couple of guests with him...Rose Richman of Mercy Hospital and Dr. John Triantafyllos, Radiation Oncologist from Iowa Methodist.  This year more than 2300 people in Iowa will be diagnosed with lung cancer and an estimated 1800 people will die of lung cancer in Iowa this year.  As many Iowans die of lung cancer every year as prostate, breast, colon and pancreatic cancers combined!  Tobacco use is responsible for nearly 1 in 5 deaths in this country.  For more information on lung cancer or how to quit tabacco, go to www.cancer.org or call 1-800-227-2345.

Please join us this afternoon at Tassel Ridge Winery, 3-6PM.  It's just off Highway 163 between Pella and Oskaloosa...a little closer to Oskaloosa than Pella.  There will be free wine tasting and free hors d'oeuvres.  Just a heads-up...both Van and I have a beautiful wine glass to give away this afternoon.  We will be telling listeners this afternoon in our first report (around 3:20) what to bring to win the wine glass.  Because you're reading this blog, I will give you the information ahead of time to get my wine glass.....since it's a Holiday Open House, be the first person to bring me a part of your nativity (you do not have to trade it) and I'll give you the glass.  Van's not giving in on his item...I do know it has to do with wine...and you will have to trade him.

Coming soon, we'll have tickets to thee Hy-Vee Big Four Classic coming December 15th to Wells Fargo Arena.  Check out the "What's Happening" button on the left-hand side of this page for the details on this and other promotions going on with Van & Bonnie.

See you this afternoon.
