I have proven that anyone can take a character flaw and turn it into a partially successful radio career. It all started at a 250 watt radio station in Macon, Missouri at the top end of the dial, spinning hits and reading the news.

After about 6 months I came back to Iowa. My wife, Deb, and I moved to Perry where I was with KDLS until 1975. I then moved to Ames to work with KLFM.

In 1977 we packed up the Pacer (we're actually Gypsies) and moved to Mason City where I had a mid-day show on KGLO until 1989. I moved back to Ames to be the Operations Manager of KEZT (formerly KLFM, KLTI).

I came to WHO in 1994 to take over the Tradio duties upon Dave Campbell's move up to mornings on 100.3. Between 1989 and 1994 I had several part-time announcing positions; one at KDMG; one at a Jefferson station on 98.9 and yet another announcing blue light specials at an area box store.

I know what you're thinking now. Poor guy can't hold a job.

I'm an amateur radio operator, and although I'm not the greatest electrical tech, I have a nice collection of pocket protectors.

I also play bass guitar in four musical groups: Murphy's Law, The Brewer Project, the Frank McLane Blues Band and the Praise Band at the Methodist church in Nevada. Trouble is, I forget what songs belong in which band!

My day begins at 2:30am. So that would make me a 2:30'er and I'm jealous of those 4:59ers that get to sleep in.

When I was a kid on the farm near Gilman, my dad asked me what I wanted to do when I grew up. I told him I wanted to be a radio announcer. He said, "Kid, you're going to have to decide one or the other; you can't do both! Even back in 3rd Grade I told my teacher I wanted to be a big time radio announcer. Mrs. Rocquet made me stand in the corner and re-think that.

AH..I love the Loess (pronounced 'luss')Hills...Western Iowa..and Sioux CIty. Cant wait to get the Cockshutt(my tractor) over there and start running around those Loess Hills like crazy.

A few things I need to do first though. Come up with a new exhaust pipe so it wont rain into the engine. And fix the seat. After some 50 odd years of my dad sitting his rear end on the seat..let alone sitting MY rear end every year since 1959 on that same seat..it is time to do some repair. (Not my rear end..but the tractor seat) But once we do the repair on the seat and replace the exhaust pipe..we'll be in fine shape and ready for Tractor Ride 2013. I cant wait.

Brian Dean returns to Saturday mornings after a 6 week hiatus getting his hormones balanced. He got a deal through one of our clients. So he's happy as a clam and ready to answer phones and prep the callers on the rules of the program. Lets see..do I remember them? Something about no operating motor vehicles allowed...ok if they dont work and need some fix up..that is allowed. (That seems backwards..doesnt it?) Well....some would say that is the show. ..backwards...

Our many thanks for Jack De Leon (distant relative to Ponce) who I still help out from time to time going down to the break room and getting him his Pepsi. It all started out in 1994 when I started at WHO.....Jack was on the board for DriveTime Des Moines. My first duty as a WHO employee was...go up the street and get Jack a Subway. Some things never change..my job the other day was...Go down to the break room and get Jack a pop.

We also need to give much thanks to Cheryl Pannier..not to be confused with Penerra Bread....but youcan see where the confusion lies dont you? Although I ahve never been told to 'go get me one of those edible bowls of soup...I would gladly go get her one if she requested..as long as she buys me one also...Its the old 'you buy..Ill fly' trick..which usuallyworks.

Anywho..we've had some great callers and good bargains the last couple of three shows..Lets..see that would make 'the last 6 shows'..and we'll try for number 7 this Saturday at 9am..provided it stops snowing..for crying out loud. THE Igoo Owners insurance I have been paying on is just about paid up.
