Thank you for your emails,
phone calls and letters regarding a Dove Season in
You should be advised that
the “Anti-Dove” people are organizing strongly against the proposed Senate File
No. 83 and will be out in numbers trying to discourage the Legislature voting
for this dove bill.
As you all know, the Right to
Carry, has been amended and signed by the Governor and is presently apart of
the Iowa Law regarding Sheriff’s no longer can deny a permit to carry at their
discretion, only way it can be denied is for specific reasons which includes: a
felony charge, drug / alcohol addictions, domestic violence convictions, being
subject to a restraining order, a past commitment to a mental institution,
unlawful immigration status and dishonorable discharge from the military. These
are the only reasons why a Sheriff would be unable to issue a permit. Of course
if they deny a permit, it could be appealed to the Administrative Court Judge.
In the past, it had to go to a District Court Judge.
We have to thank the NRA and
it’s members for allowing and pushing the Legislature to make this amendment.
It being remembered that the Iowa Carry Permit allows for open or concealed
carrying of hand guns, rifles, and/or shot guns. This new permit to carry will
affect the DNR as far as law enforcement goes, which hasn’t been clarified to
this point yet.
I’m still getting a lot of
phone calls regarding a lack of pheasant and quail hunting and why we have such
a long quail season in
