So Lindsay Graham is running round the media and telling anyone who will listen that amnesty on illegal immigrants is the way ahead for the GOP.

“It’s one thing to shoot yourself in the foot,” Graham said on CBS’ “Face The Nation,” referring to GOP support among Hispanics. “Just don’t reload the gun.”

“So I intend not to reload this gun when it comes to Hispanics. I intend to tear this wall down and pass an immigration reform bill that’s an American solution to an American problem. But we have nobody to blame but ourselves when it comes to losing Hispanics. And we can get them back with some effort on our part.”

I came here from England. I came here to seek a better future for myself and my family. A future that did not involve living under the yoke of Government interference with everything I do.

I came here legally. Through the front door. Dealing with the bureaucratic nightmare that is legal immigration to the United States. And that certainly needs reform. As does making it mean something when you come here.

We have always been a country of immigrants. Immigrants who came here for a better future. But there has been a change. The change is not about the why, but about using us. The immigrants these days - especially the illegal ones - come here to use the United States, not to embrace her. “What can I get?”, is the question as opposed to “what can I contribute?”

At citizenship ceremonies around the country, there is something called the roll of nations. They read the name of each country and if you are a citizen of that country (before you oath is taken) then you stand. Most stand and sit quietly. In my ceremony, when it came to Mexico, there were shouts and cheers and chanting of “Viva Mexico!” and I was left dumbfounded that even these LEGAL immigrants from Mexico, have more love for their old country than their new one.

So the GOP is panicky. It sees a demographic that many within the party believe to be insurmountable. In the election last week, the numbers breakdown like this. Sixty-two percent of whites voted for Romney. Ninety percent of black voters and 71% of Hispanic voters went for Obama.

But the GOP is attacking this the wrong way, because it doesn’t seem to get - despite all the evidence - that this is exactly how the Democrats want it. They want to paint the Republicans and Conservatives as people who hate them.

And so they invent “wars” and have successfully sold them. The war on women; the war on blacks; the war on immigrants are all things that large swathes of the population buy into.

These wars have been invented by those who don’t want immigrants to realize the American Dream.  At least not the dreams of our immigrant ancestors and those who built this country.

No today, the American Government spends money in Mexico on TV and radio, advertising our food stamp program. Yes, that’s right. Our tax Dollars spent in a foreign country telling people coming here illegally how to get welfare.

You want to spend money in a foreign country? Go right ahead. tell them about Washington. About how against all the odds, this ragtag group of patriots defeated the greatest military power on the face of the earth for a right to live FREE of Government interference.

Tell them about how they too can fulfill their full potential by coming to a country full of opportunity for those willing to work hard and obey the law.

Amnesty simply doesn’t work. My solution in a moment, but these deals never work. Ronald Reagan was promised a deal on the border for amnesty. He did his part, the border never got done.

Take a look at what happens, even BEFORE this President broke the law with his latest version.

  • The 1986 Immigration and Reform Control Act blanket amnesty for an estimated 2.7 million illegal aliens
  • 1994: The “Section 245(i)” temporary rolling amnesty for 578,000 illegal aliens
  • 1997: Extension of the Section 245(i) amnesty
  • 1997: The Nicaraguan Adjustment and Central American Relief Act for nearly one million illegal aliens from Central America
  • 1998: The Haitian Refugee Immigration Fairness Act amnesty for 125,000 illegal aliens from Haiti
  • 2000: Extension of amnesty for some 400,000 illegal aliens who claimed eligibility under the 1986 act
  • 2000: The Legal Immigration Family Equity Act, which included a restoration of the rolling Section 245(i) amnesty for 900,000 illegal aliens

You want to solve immigration? Here you go.

1. Secure the border! This actually has more to do with national security than it does with people coming across to mow yards in California!

2. Make LEGAL immigration a more simplistic process and much cheaper. Agree on a number per year and stick to it. Reduce the bureaucracy.

3. One year start to finish for a Green Card.

4. You only ever get ONE Green card, valid for ten years. At the end of that time, become a citizen or go home.

5. To become a citizen you must first of all REALLY speak English - not the fake English test that exists right now.

6. To become a citizen you must pass a REAL test that shows you understand just what America is and what she is supposed to be. I am not talking college standard, just something that shows you REALLY get it.

You want an “A” word to sum this up? ASSIMILATION is the answer, not AMNESTY.

Being American doesn’t mean you give up your roots, but it does mean you break away from them and identify yourself first as American as I have done. I am not special - this is how it has been here for generations. We are in trouble partially because of the hyphen - that and Political Correctness which I have long said will kill us.

If the GOP wants to see it’s ultimate demise then it will embrace the amnesty roadmap. And in 2016 you will be able to hear the shock that it didn’t get elected again.
