A Newton man is behind bars, accused of stealing a Des Moines Police patrol car.

DMPD says officers were speaking with business owners on University Avenue Saturday afternoon, when one of the cars disappeared. An officer had left the keys inside of it.

GPS tracking led police to the car, found abandoned about three miles away.

Police found the suspect, 21-year old Chance Cameron Frisch Johnson, in an alley about 10 minutes later. He's now facing several different charges.

DMPD is now conducting an internal review of this incident.
