Des Moines Polices say a woman was struck by an SUV in the 4000 block of University this (Friday) afternoon. Police say the 60 year old woman was transported to Iowa Methodist Medical Centerl, where she was pronounced dead. The names of those involved have not been released at this time
Police say the woman was crossing University Avenue, when an SUV, driven by a 16 year old was eastbound on University at approximately 1:22 p.m. Witnesses say excessive speed may have been a significant factor.
University Avenue between 41st and 40th Streets has reopened to traffic.

(Des Moines, Iowa) Police Department Traffic Unit officers are investigating a serious car / pedestrian crash in the 4000 block of University Avenue. University Avenue, both eastbound and westbound lanes, will be closed between 41st and 40th Streets for approximately 2 hours. Please use an alternate route.
