Man sought in Des Moines stabbing in custody

UPDATE:     A person of interest in the stabbing of a woman last month in Des Moines, has been charged with Attempted Murder.   Forty-six-year-old Cortez West is also facing Willful  Injury and Domestic Abuse Assault charges.  He was booked into the Polk County Jail Tuesday, June 27th, 2018. 

Police were called to an apartment on SE 22nd Street May 17th, because a woman had been stabbed multiple times, and had jumped from a second story deck to escape her attacker.    West, who was the victim's roommate, fled the scene.

The victim, Donna Williams was in critical condition, but is now recovering.

UPDATE:   Police are looking for 46-year-old Cortez West.  Investigators wish to talk with West, to see if he has information that might be helpful in this case.  Anyone who knows of his whereabouts is asked to contact Des Moines Police.

DES MOINES, Iowa – Des Moines Police say a woman, who was stabbed several times overnight, jumped from a second story deck to escape her attacker, her male roommate.

Police were called to an apartment in the 33-hundred block of SE 22nd Street, around 3 o'clock this morning, on a report of a stabbing.

Officers found Donna Williams outside the building.  She's hospitalized in critical, but stable condition.

Our news partner, Channel 13 WHO-TV reports a neighbor told police the suspect, who's name has not been released, ran into nearby woods.   He has not been located.
