(Urbandale, IA) -- Living History Farms is planning some big changes, including year-round programming. Spokesperson Elizabeth Keest Sedral says the $6.2 million project includes building a new visitor's center and converting the existing visitor's center into a year-round educational facility. The project also includes some smaller project to improve accessibility, such as more paved sidewalks.

Keest Sedral say they plan to break ground on the new building in July and expect it to be open in 2026, and the attraction will continue to operate during construction.

Living History Farms has been awarded a $1.2 million Destination Iowa Grant from the Iowa Economic Development Authority. Keest Sedral says they are over 80-percent of their fundraising goal.

Living History farms will open April 30th this year and remain open until the end of October. Keest Sedral says volunteers are currently working to get the grounds ready for their busy season.
