Davenport Man Arrested After Chase, Hit-And-Run In Illinois

(Rock Island, IL) -- A Davenport man is facing charges after crashing into a bicycle rider while trying to flee from a traffic stop in Illinois.

The Rock Island Police Department says around 3:53 p.m. Wednesday, February 21, officers attempted a traffic stop in the 4200 block of 11th Street on a black Chevrolet Impala.

Police say the suspect, 21-year-old Jimmie Lightner III fled southbound from the traffic stop at a high rate of speed before turning eastbound onto Blackhawk Road and hitting a 67-year-old male bicyclist.

Lightner then fled from the crash scene before abandoning the vehicle in the 4500 block of 12th Street and fleeing on foot.

The bicyclist was transported to Unity Point Trinity Medical Center before being transferred to Iowa Medical Center where he remains in critical condition.

Lightner was later located in the 1200 block of 46th Avenue and taken into custody.

He is being held on charges of Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Reckless Driving and Failure to Report an Accident Causing Great Bodily Harm.
