(Davenport, IA) -- Repairs are underway after a sinkhole nearly swallowed a car at a Davenport shopping center.

The property manager for the Village Shopping Center, NAI Ruhl Commercial says a water main break caused the sinkhole to form Wednesday, February 21.

A vehicle drove over the weak asphalt and partially sank into the six-foot-wide hole before repairs could begin.

The area has now been closed to traffic and construction crews are working to repair the damage.
