Clark breaks NCAA women's scoring mark with career-high performance

There's a new all-time leading scorer in NCAA women's college basketball.

Iowa guard Caitlin Clark on Thursday broke the record of 3,527 career points that had been set by Washington's Kelsey Plum from 2013-17. Clark needed just eight points to break the record, and did so in the first quarter of a Big Ten matchup against Michigan.

The former Dowling Catholic High School star scored a career-high 49 points in the Hawkeyes win, setting a new Carver-Hawkeyes Arena record for most points in a single-game.

She is now less than 100 points behind the men's record for career points scored, set by Hall of Famer Pete Maravich.

Iowa returns to action next Thursday, on the road against Indiana.
