Teen Charged In Deadly Des Moines Crash

(Des Moines, IA) -- A teen is facing charges in a deadly Des Moines crash. Police say the 17-year-old boy is facing Homicide by Vehicle, OW-I and Reckless Driving charges, stemming from a December crash involving two vehicles. Police were called to SE 14th and Watrous at 7:22 p.m. December 23rd. Three people were hurt in the crash, one of them 32-year-old Roberto Rodriguez Peterson died at the hospital.

Evidence in this investigation indicates the juvenile was under the influence of cannabis at the time of the crash, and was driving in excess of 70 mph. The posted roadway speed limit is 40 mph.

The teen has been referred to juvenile court.
