(Keokuk County, IA) -- An Iowa man's charged after investigators say human remains were found in Keokuk County, at 21891 Highway 78 near the town of Ollie. The remains have tentatively been identified as those of 40-year-old Craig Smith, who was reported missing January 20th. Investigators say the condition of the remains are preventing law enforcement from making a positive identification. The State Anthropologist, the State Medical Examiner, and the DCI Crime Lab are working to make a positive ID.

Forty-four-year-old Jeffrey Gautreaux of Ollie has been charged with First Degree Murder and Abuse of a Corpse.

Gautreaux lived with his stepfather, 63-year-old Steven Grant at the Ollie address.

Gautreaux and Grant were initially charged with drug offenses. Grant has been released from custody.

Anyone with information related to this investigation is asked to contact the DCI at 515.725.6010 or at dciinfo@dps.state.ia.us.
