(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- Work is underway to shore up two Cedar Rapids schools. Support beams for domes at both Taft and Harding Middle Schools were deemed unsafe last month, and the domes closed to students.

The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that crews are fitting the beams with steel supports. They hope to have the work done by year's end.

Over one-thousand students are affected at the two schools as administrators and teachers find alternate areas of the buildings for instruction.
