Investigators: Random Act Of Violence Kills Iowa Grocery Store Employee

(Monticello, IA) -- There's new information about a deadly shooting today (Tuesday) in Monticello. Police say a Fareway Grocery store employee was standing near a loading dock when he was shot around 7:30 a.m. The employee, 48-year-old Aaron McAtee died at University of Iowa Hospitals.

A Delaware County Sheriff's deputy later located the suspected shooter, 38-year-old of Nathan Russell of East Dubuque, Illinois north of Monticello in Hopkinton, Iowa. Investigators say Russell refused to comply and was shot by a Delaware County Sheriff's deputy during the arrest. Russell was taken to the hospital. His condition is unknown.

Investigators say it appears the shooting was a random act of violence.

The Delaware County Deputy has been placed on leave, pending the outcome of an investigation.
