Tense Moments In South Omaha Police Investigation

Omaha Police investigate a burglary at the "EZ Money" Pawn Shop near 24th and L Streets.

As officers arrived around 3:30 a.m. today, they saw one of the suspects get in the rear passenger seat of a black Hyundai Elantra that was parked at 24th and M Streets.

An Omaha Police Sergeant tried to hem in the Hyundai, but the vehicle struck the Sergeant's cruiser, jumped the curb, and hit a parking sign.

The vehicle continued east on M Street, entered a parking lot, and hit two additional unoccupied vehicles, and a building.

Investigators say the driver and front passenger were arrested while a third suspect fled.

A "Help an Officer" call was sent out over police radios as the third suspect was believed to possibly be armed.

The Hyundai was later found to be reported stolen out of Bellevue.

Police say 21 firearms were recovered from the stolen vehicle and an additional firearm was recovered along the path where the third suspect fled on foot.

Two 16-year-old males were booked into the Douglas County Youth Center for burglary, possession of stolen items, minor in possession of a firearm, CCW violation / failure to disclose, theft unlawful taking, unlawful occupancy, obstructing an officer, and attempted felony assault on an officer.
