(Lucas County, Iowa) -- An Ottumwa man is charged with second-degree murder, in connection with the death of a Florida man. Thirty-year-old Trenton Orwig is in the Lucas County Jail without bond.

Investigators say 33-year-old Nicholas Johnson of Florida suffered life-threatening injuries during an assault in Russell in early July. The DPS says Johnson had been hospitalized since the assault and died on August 7th.

Trenton Orwig is accused of causing the injuries that led to Johnson's death.

DCI agents and officers with the Ottumwa Police Department arrested Orwig without incident on August 25. Orwig has been charged with one count of Murder in the Second Degree, a Class B felony.
