Iowa Basketball Coach's Son Cited In Deadly Iowa City Crash

(Iowa City, IA) -- The youngest son of Hawkeye Men's basketball coach Fran McCaffery has been cited in a deadly crash in Iowa City. Iowa's News Now reports Jonathan McCaffrey, who goes by "Jack" was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. Forty-five-year-old Corey Hite of Cedar Rapids was running May 22nd, when he was hit, and later died McCaffrey faces a $1,000 fine and 180 day license suspension. Jack McCaffrey is a student at Iowa City West High School. McCaffrey is an ESPN top-100 basketball recruit.

Hite's obituary states Corey was born October 21, 1977, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Bruce and Amy (Welbes) Hite. He married Karinda Stone on May 3, 2001, in Marion, Iowa. Corey graduated from Marion High School and a Bachelors in Sociology and a Master’s in Education. 

He was employed with the Iowa Army National Guard for 27 years.
