(Omaha, NE) -- The City of Omaha is looking to become sister cities with a community in France, including Omaha Beach and the surrounding area in Normandy.

In 2019, the Omaha Sister Cities Association and Mayor Jean Stothert signed a formal friendship agreement with the City of Isigny-Omaha Intercom, France. The community consists of 59 townships and has a population of nearly 27,000.

A proposal approved by the city council Tuesday said "the relationship has blossomed and matured," calling on the respective mayors to strengthen the relationship by becoming sister cities.
