(Douglas County, NE) -- An Elkhorn man accused of shooting at law enforcement last week is released from a mental health facility and booked into jail.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office says on April 25th, deputies were called to a home in the 2400 block of 188th Terrace for a domestic disturbance. DCSO says the first deputy on scene made contact with the caller and her children in a vehicle in the street. Investigators say after a brief interview she was advised to move to a safe distance while that deputy awaited back up. The sheriff's office says a short time after the caller moved her vehicle, a single shot was fired in the direction of the deputy through a window of the house.

Investigators say the home was eventually surrounded and the suspect, 39 year old Carl Baughman, eventually surrendered without incident after an hour long negotiation and standoff. Baughman was taken to a mental health facility for treatment. A warrant was issued for his arrest and he was booked on that warrant after his release from the hospital on Friday. Baughman has been charged with one count of Attempted 1st degree Assault on an Officer and one count of Use of a Firearm to Commit a Felony.
