(Davenport, IA) -- The Mississippi River at Rock Island is expected to reach a minor flood stage of 15 feet by today.

The National Weather Service says the Mississippi should reach a moderate flood stage of 16 feet within 48 hours of minor flooding.

NWS is urging residents to not put off flood preparations.

By early next week, NWS says the Mississippi River at Rock Island will reach a major flood stage with water levels as high as 21 feet.

Forecasters say the rising river levels are from melting snowpack up north.

The National Weather Service Quad Cities will release weekly flood reports until the threat lessens with the next one being released tomorrow.
