Iowa Mini Med School Coming To Des Moines

(Undated) -- A Mini Med School will be held in Des Moines Tuesday, April 11th. The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine program will focus on brain science. Those who wish to attend are asked to pre-register.

The event will be held at the UnityPoint Health Education and Research Center, 1415 Woodland Ave., Suite 130, Des Moines, and it is free to the public.

The program, “Lighting Up Our Brains: Better Understanding Mental Illness through Advanced Discoveries,” will be presented by UI physician Gerard Clancy, MD. The program will look at innovative brain research addressing mental health needs and treatment options in Iowa. There will also be a discussion about the impact of the pandemic on health care systems.

Mini Medical School highlights groundbreaking discoveries and hot health care topics in an easy-to-understand and accessible format. Presented in a “medical school” format through lectures and hands-on, lab-inspired programming, the program is designed to help the public better understand how biomedical discoveries translate into life-saving treatments and care.
