Construction managers say Riverfront Drive and the Douglas Street extension will open midday Friday, April 14th, giving motorists direct access through Heartland of America Park and Lewis & Clark Landing.
Riverfront Drive runs just east of CHI Health Center Omaha and through Lewis & Clark Landing in North Downtown.
The Douglas Street extension begins at 8th Street and continues eastward, connecting with Riverfront Drive.
In late 2020, Riverfront Drive was closed for large scale Lewis & Clark Landing construction and remodeling work.
The extension of Douglas Street will improve access to "The RiverFront’s" two remaining parks, while providing direct access to parking lots for the Kiewit Luminarium.
However, "The Riverfront" construction managers remind us to be aware of construction in Heartland of America Park and Lewis & Clark Landing continuing through the summer.
The extension of Douglas Street will now serve as the new southern access point to Riverfront Drive, which continues through to Abbott Drive.
There is still no public access to the park space within Heartland of America Park and Lewis & Clark Landing.
