Study Reveals Economic Impact Of Iowa's State Universities

(Urbandale, IA) -- A study finds Iowa's three state universities added nearly $15 billion to the state's economy during fiscal year 2021-2022 An economic impact study from Lightcast, a labor market analytics firm, also finds the University of Iowa, Iowa State University, and the University of Northern Iowa support nearly 200,000 jobs in the state, and returns nearly three dollars for every taxpayer dollar spent. 

“Iowa’s public universities are economic engines that drive Iowa’s economy,” said Michael J. Richards, president of the Board of Regents.  “The activities that our universities provide in educating students, doing cutting-edge research, and providing service are making a huge impact on the entire state.”

 The report also finds alumni from the three universities generate $7.2 billion in added income for the state economy during fiscal year 2021-2022.
