Iowa Voids Illinois Student Group Tickets Bought Under False Identity

(Iowa City, IA) -- The Iowa Athletic Department is voiding tickets an Illinois spirit group bought after discovering the group falsely claimed the tickets were for an Illinois chapter of the Boys and Girls Club.

The student spirit group Orange Krush ordered 200 tickets at a discounted rate to the men’s basketball game in Iowa City tomorrow.

Iowa says it’s refunding the group $5,400 and donating 200 tickets to the Cedar Rapids Boys and Girls Club.

Orange Krush says it lost $6,000 having to cancel charter buses.

The group says it routinely uses assumed identities when buying tickets because it expects a group that cheers for the visitor and heckles the home team to be rejected.
