(Lincoln, NE) -- No Blackshirts will be worn by the Husker defense for the rest of this season.

That's according to interim Head Coach Mickey Joseph, who on Thursday night confirmed on the Huskers Radio Network that the honorary practice jerseys won't be worn. Joseph said that the Blackshirts are adding unwanted pressure on the players. The Huskers started the season giving out nine Blackshirts, to returning starters, but they were taken away after Joseph took over as head coach. The Blackshirts date back to 1964 and Bob Devaney, who started the tradition of giving the jerseys to defensive starters.

Nebraska plays next at Purdue on Saturday night. Kickoff from Ross-Ade Stadium in West Lafayette, Indiana is at 6:30 on the Big Ten Network.
