Good Progress Reported On Nebraska Forest Fire

The facebook page of the "Nebraska National Forests and Grasslands" says the "Bovee Fire" is now 94% contained, as firefighters tied in more containment lines on all sides.

The fire has been burning since Sunday in in the Nebraska National Forest near Halsey in Thomas County and has burned over 19-thousand acres.

There will be a community information meeting about the Bovee Fire, today (thu) at 3 p.m. at the Halsey Community Center.

Firefighters and agency leaders will provide information and answer questions about the fire and recovery.

Purdum Volunteer Fire Assistant Chief Mike Moody died after suffering a medical emergency while fighting the fire earlier this week.

The fire also destroyed a 4-H camp lodge and cabins, as well as a lookout tower.
