Lincoln family loses hundreds of thousands of dollars in crypto scam

(Lincoln, NE) -- An investigation is underway in Lincoln after a family is scammed out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Lincoln Police say on Monday officers were notified by the victims, a 39 year old, a 43 year old, and a 77 year old, of an internet scam. Police say the victims reported that they had invested in crypto currency and that after a period of trading, were notified their funds were frozen.

Police say the victims were encouraged by unknown individual to continue investing, in order to unfreeze their assets. LPD says between the three victims they have reported a loss of $700,000. Police say they are now unable to access any of their funds, which prompted them to contact police and federal authorities. The investigation is ongoing.
