Traffic stops lead to two drug-related arrests in Merrick County

(Merrick County, NE) -- Two people are behind bars after separate traffic stops lead to drug-related arrests.

The Nebraska State Patrol says troopers, with assistance of the SNARE Drug Task Force, Merrick County Sheriff’s Office and Central City Police Department, have arrested two people as part of an ongoing drug investigation. The NSP says the first traffic stop occurred in Central City, around 9:30 Sunday night. Investigators say after pulling a vehicle over, an NSP K-9 detected the odor of a controlled substance inside the vehicle. During a search of the vehicle, 145 grams of meth and smaller amounts of cocaine, psilocybin mushrooms, oxycodone pills, alprazolam pills, dextroamphetamine pills, liquid methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were found. The driver, 41 year old Jake Spiegel of Albion, was arrested for several drug-related charges.

The second traffic stop occurred in Chapman, around midnight on Monday. The state patrol says investigators located 183 grams of methamphetamine and smaller amounts of heroin, psilocybin mushrooms, cocaine, marijuana, unknown liquids and drug paraphernalia during a search. The driver, 42 year old Cheryl Gonzales of Spencer, was arrested for several drug-related charges.
