Drake Diner Ready for Steady Stream of Drake Relay Tourists

(Des Moines, IA) -- Up to 10,000 people are in Des Moines for the Drake Relays this week and they might be hungry. Drake Diner near the stadium on 1111 25th Street has opened its covered patio capable of adding 75 more hungry people; over 200 at a time. Owner Shannon Vilmain says the diner usually gets a breakfast and lunch rush each day but this week it sees a steady stream of people from out of town throughout the day. She says she expects the diner to be full Thursday night through the end of the relays Saturday afternoon. Catch Des Moines reports the local economy, especially restaurants and hotels, is expected to see a boost of $12 to $14-million.
