Large hail from Friday storm clobbers Des Moines area

(Des Moines, IA) -- Strong storms Friday afternoon left a mark in the Des Moines area. The National Weather Service says they received numerous reports of large hail. There were reports of hail as large as tennis balls in Grimes and Beaverdale. There were numerous reports of hail ranging from marble-to-ping pong ball size in the Des Moines area.

Strong storms continued overnight. Some areas (including Polk County) received at least two inches of rain, with heavier totals reported in Adair, Cass, Clarke, and Taylor Counties which received closer to three inches of rain this (Saturday) morning. Forecasters issued a Flash Flood watch for parts of south central and southeast Iowa due to heavy rainfall, in effect until 10 a.m. July 10th.

Forecasters say showers and storms are possible today, but are not expected to be severe.
