Omaha Police Seeing More Catalytic Converter Thefts

OMAHA, Nebraska -- Omaha police are seeing even more catalytic converter thefts.

Omaha Crimestoppers reports the converters are being targeted because of a rise in the value of the precious metals contained inside.

The parts control emissions from vehicle exhaust fumes and turns many pollutants into harmless gasses before they're released into the air.

Thieves prefer the part because it contains platinum, palladium, or rhodium which can be sold to metal dealers.

Omaha police are asking the public to keep an eye out for suspicious people prowling around or crawling under cars.

They want people to report any activity by calling 911.
