(Des Moines, IA) -- Susan G. Komen of Greater Iowa is cutting itself off from the national foundation.

In a news release, the Central Iowa chapter says it's disaffiliating with the recently restructured parent organization citing a desire to share its funds with patients in it's service area, where the money was raised.

Organizations that will receive a portion of the 525-thousand-dollar donation include the Iowa Department of Public Health and the Polk County Health Department, among Iowa hospital systems and cancer centers.

The release states, "the Komen Greater Iowa Board of Directors has selected the following organizations to receive funding:"

  • Polk County Health Department
  • Iowa Department of Public Health
  • River Hills Community Health Center
  • Genesis Health System
  • Trinity Medical Center
  • Jennie Edmundson Hospital
  • Promise Community Health Center
  • Gilda’s Club Quad Cities
  • Cerro Gordo County Public Health
  • Casting for Recovery
  • Can Do Cancer
  • Above & Beyond Cancer
  • Living Proof Exhibit
