Man facing charges after Bettendorf police chase

(Bettendorf, IA) -- A man's facing a long list of charges after leading police on a chase in Bettendorf. Officers tried to stop a 2017 Ford 150 pick-up in the 11-hundred block of Brown Street around 8 o'clock this (Wednesday) morning. Police say the driver refused to stop and led police on a chase that ended when police used spike strips to deflate the tires on the truck. Officers then blocked the truck in a parking lot at 12-10 State Street. Police say several police vehicles were damaged, but no one was hurt.

The driver, 50-year-old Michael Duane Smith, was taken into custody and charged with a parole violation, 1st degree criminal mischief, eluding, Interference with a weapon, lane violation, stop sign violation, and tinted windows.
