Des Moines Public Schools approves hybrid learning model

The Des Moines School Board approved a Hybrid learning model Monday night that would bring the district into compliance with state law.

Students would be divided into two groups, attending in-person classes two days a week one week, then three days a week the following week.

The plan would feature a phased-in approach to resuming in-person learning. Preschool students would return to school buildings on October 12th, elementary students would be back on classrooms on October 19th.

Middle schools would reopen on October 26th, and high school students would return to in-person classes on November 10th.

Students could return to in-person learning only if local COVID-19 numbers meet the metrics established by the district. DMPS is meeting next week to establish those guidelines.
