Iowans Dealing With Allergies Amid COVID-19 Pandemic

Iowans are dealing with allergies that mimic some COVID-19 coronavirus symptoms. If you end up with a stuffy nose, is it due to allergies or coronavirus?

"Nasal stuffiness, people get really plugged up, that can be almost with both of them," says Dr. James Wille at Unity Point Health. "But a runny nose is usually much more likely with allergies than any other kind of infection or COVID."

Dr. Wille says coronavirus usually presents with a fever, while allergy symptoms typically include more sneezing and itching.

He says antihistamines will not work on COVID-19, so if you take one and it clears your symptoms, you've got allergies.
