No fans in the stands for ISU football season opener

AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University's football team is opening its season without fans in the stands.

The ISU Athletic Department says the school is reversing a decision announced earlier this week to allow 25,000 socially-distanced season ticket holders into Jack Trice Stadium to watch the September 12th opener against Louisiana.

Athletic Director Jamie Pollard says the no-fans decision came from ISU President Wendy WIntersteen after weighing feedback she says she's gotten from the community.

In recent weeks, Story County has led the state's positivity rate for COVID-19.

Many of those cases are people 18- to 40-years old.
