Inmate, Corrections Officers Clash at Fort Madison Prison

FORT MADISON, Iowa - The Iowa Department of Corrections says an inmate at a southeast Iowa state prison allegedly attacked a corrections officer.

Corrections officials say the inmate allegedly refused to stop moving toward an officer who was handing out medications. The officer used pepper spray, but the inmate continued to advance.

Corrections officials say the inmate punched the officer repeatedly but was eventually restrained.

Neither the officer nor the inmate suffered significant injuries.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
