DES MOINES, Iowa - There are five new deaths from COVID-19 in Iowa and 885 additional positive cases of the virus as of Friday at 10 a.m.
The positive cases are among the highest one day totals for the state since pandemic began.
The daily death totals have been mostly been in the single digits during the past several weeks..
There are 37,528 total cases, as 8,695 tests were reported Thursday, which is a daily record for the state. The positive test rate is currently 7.4 percent.
There have been a total of 782 deaths statewide. Daily reported deaths and hospitalizations have generally been falling over the past several weeks, with daily totals in single-digits.
Iowa officials have acknowledged a rise in cases among adults age 18-40.
A total of 400,869 COVID-19 tests have been conducted in Iowa, and one-in-8 Iowans has been tested.
There have been 27,551 recoveries from the virus in the state. Governor Reynolds announced several weeks ago that the metrics for determining recoveries was changed. Because of the change, the recovery rate jumped from 62 percent to roughly 80 percent .
The state is reporting COVID-19 outbreaks at 15 long term care centers. Long term center outbreaks have dropped sharply from as much as 36 in recent months. There have been 416 long term care center deaths, accounting for 53 percent of the state total.
There are 210 hospitalizations from the virus. There are 70 ICU patients with 32 on ventilators. Hospitalizations have been slowly rising since reaching a low point during the pandemic in late June.
