Hottest weather of the week on Wednesday

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Iowa could see the hottest day of the week on Wednesday.

"We'll see highs widespread across Iowa in the low to mid-90's and heat indices at worst will get into the triple digits--100 to 102 in the peak heating of the afternoon" says National Weather Service Meteorologist Brad Small.

He says there doesn't appear to be an end in sight.

"The pattern's very stagnant with upper-level ridging in place, so we'll see nothing less than seasonal July temperatures--sometimes even warmer days like we're going to see Wednesday" he says.

Small says it's also going to stay dry.

"We're not looking at a widespread thunderstorm complex. Some places will be fortunate and get some rain, but it won't be widespread. That trend will continue into the weekend with some chances, but we're not going to turn into a wet pattern or anything" he says.

Small says the long range forecast calls for hotter-than-normal temperatures all the way through the middle of July.

A Heat Advisory is is effect for Eastern Iowa from 11:00 a.m until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday
